DESIGNER PROFILE
"Barbara Lee likes women to be strong but feminine and
just a little bit wicked"
Christchurch based designer Barbara Lee has been at the forefront of New
Zealand's fashion industry since opening her signature store PANACHE in 1978.
Her appearance at Air New Zealand Fashion Week in 2003 successfully ushered in a
new era for Barbara Lee. For the first time in a number of years her label was
offered to selected retailers and after headline grabbing shows in 2003, 2004, 2005 AND 2009 it has been a high demand throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Barbara creates collectable pieces that cater for every occasion. She is famous
for designing sexy, fabulous city wear for high-flying women. Sensual evening
wear is another passion. Barbara works with her husband William - a great
source of support and inspiration and a talented team who share her passion.
Barbara Lee's work for corporate clients has
style and longevity best illustrated by the fourteen years Air New Zealand
staff wore their Barbara Lee designed uniform from 1992-2006.
Barbara believes anyone wearing a corporate wardrobe should feel confident
they look as good as the best dressed person in any business situation.
Many of our leading schools and colleges are wearing Barbara Lee designed
and produced school uniforms. Creating a uniform that respects the history
and traditions of each school that modern young students will be proud to
wear is a challenge, a pleasure and a privilege.
